Click to see subtopics:You can use the forecast view to enter your forecast parameters, run present or future forecasts, manage your configurations, and make configuration changes.
Forecast parameters
Applicable forecast parameters are:
Forecast Period - options are Months or Days.
| Important: | If a forecast is converted from months to days (or from days to months) then any existing forecast is deleted. There can only be one configuration when switching from a daily forecast to a monthly forecast, therefore any changes in the daily forecast must be moved to the first monthly configuration date. |
Start Year - the first year of your forecast run. The default is the current year.
Start Month - the first month of a future forecast. Production is assumed to start on the first (1st) day of the specified month. The default is the current month.
Start Day - the first day of a daily future forecast. This applies only if the forecast period is selected as days.
Forecast Duration - the length of the forecast period, in months or days, depending on the forecast period selection.
Year End - (this feature only applies to monthly forecasts) the last month used for accounting purposes. In the status window, a gap is placed after this month as a visual indicator. You can choose December for calendar year forecasts, October for typical gas contract year forecasts, or any other month for a forecast that corresponds to a financial year-end. The default is December (for December 31st).
Running forecasts
From the Forecast View, you can run production forecasts for present or future operating conditions. You can also run forecasts from the Forecast Options menu and from the forecast icons on the main toolbar (
).
Present forecast
Performing a present forecast means that the forecast will run until the date selected in the case controller.
Future forecast
Performing a future forecast means that the forecast will run for the entire forecast duration. You can pause and resume a future forecast by pressing F3.
Forecast configuration changes
You can make changes to your model at different dates throughout the forecast period. Select a date from the Date column in the forecast view grid and proceed with the required change in the corresponding editor. The editor opens with the selected date highlighted in the forecast date tree. You are prompted to apply the changes once you exit the editor. For more information on making configuration changes, see adding changes after building your model.
Manage your forecasts
The following functionality is available to manage your forecasts:
- Managing multiple configuration dates - in the Forecast View tab, you can filter the forecast periods that are displayed. Click Collapse Cases to show only rows with configuration changes (these dates are displayed in yellow). Click Expand Cases to show all dates.
- Delete configuration(s) - select the configuration date to be deleted, then right-click and select Delete Case. Alternatively, right-click in the forecast grid view and select Delete Cases. From the dialog box that displays, select the cases you want to delete.
- Important: You are not prompted to confirm a deletion.
- Delete entire forecast - click Delete Forecast to remove the entire forecast.
- Partially delete forecast - select a configuration date, then right-click in the forecast grid view and select Delete Forecast. This will delete the forecast for the selected date and any future dates in the grid.
- Copy a configuration date - make sure all dates are listed in the forecast view (click Expand Cases if you collapsed cases previously), select a case to copy, and then select a date to paste it to.
- Lock case - select this checkbox for configuration dates you want to lock. This prevents edits from occurring on all facilities that exist for that configuration date until the next configuration date.
- In Piper 2015v2, the Include Config column was removed from the grid. Therefore, it is no longer possible to include or exclude configurations from a forecast run. Configurations can only be managed as described above. For files upgraded from a previous version of Piper, all configurations are now included, even if they were excluded before.
